Grad Student Employment Opportunity in the Center for Inclusive Education and Scholarship

The Center for Inclusive Education & Scholarship (CIES) is looking for a current graduate student to serve as a program coordinator within the Center. CIES is home to over 20 programs ranging from pre‐college programs to retention programs for undergraduate students. The Center is continuing to grow our offerings including the recent acquisition of the High School Scholars program that allows local high school students to take courses at Drexel.
The position will begin January 2022 with the potential to extend per the right candidate’s graduation date.
The ideal candidate will have a continued interest in learning about higher education administration; supporting DEI programming to assist with retention; and community building to promote a sense of belonging among the students we serve. We are looking for a self‐starter with an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Primary Function:
High School Scholars Program:
- Manage student application process with over 100 applications per cycle, including application review and coordinate with the Office of Enrollment Management to create and manage student records. Organize, digitize, and archive application documents as necessary.
- Maintain accurate program records including applicant database, quarterly enrollment and grade information, active student database, and alumni database.
- Serve as academic advisor for all High School Scholars. Meet with students to provide guidance on enrollment, academic performance, course selection, and other general advising as needed.
- Work with the Office of the Registrar to register between 40‐110 High School Scholars into classes each term, work with Drexel Central to secure tuition remission.
- Plan and execute orientation sessions each term for new High School Scholar students.
- Manage all communication as necessary related to High School Scholars Program, including quarterly newsletter. Continue to liaise with matriculated High School Scholars as needed.
Act 101 Program:
- Act 101 – State grant that funds support for students who are Pennsylvania residents from underserved areas.
- Assist with recruitment of Act 101 students, including securing signatures of the annual agreement.
- Coordinate events and workshops specific for the Act 101 student population.
Other Responsibilities:
- Serve as additional academic coach/mentor for our current student population
- Assist with center programs as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Skills:
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical and communication (oral and written) skills.
- Demonstrated experience working and interacting with people of diverse cultural backgrounds and varying levels of English language proficiency.
- Demonstrated experience with innovative programming for students on a college campus.
- Must be a team player, customer service driven, possess a strong work ethic and an understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with academic departments on behalf of students and scholars.
- Must be able to multi‐task in a fast‐paced office environment.
- Must be proficient with computer software (Microsoft Office tools and database management).
Additional requirements:
- Graduate students who will not graduate before June 2022 (ideally June 2023)
- In good academic standing
- Must pass Criminal Background check and Child Abuse Clearance check NOTE: this does not include benefits such as health insurance or tuition remission.
Compensation
- This position will be $17.25/hr for no more than 20 hours per week.
- Flexible schedule with some evening and potentially weekend hours required.
